Smith & Hawken

Illustrator Art Direction

During my time with Target, I had the opportunity to be able to conceptually pitch the use of an illustrator to visualize a garden of flowers and veggies. I researched and found some top illustrators from around the globe. There was one that immediately stood out to me, Holly Summerville, whose style I fell in love with after scouring the world wide webs for a botanical artist that fit the look and feel I had in mind for this Smith & Hawken packaging.

I began the discussions and luckily, she said yes to partnering with Target…and let me tell you there was of course a tight timeline in place, so that paired with the fact she resides in Ireland…it created a few hiccups to overcome. I talked, directed, volleyed and jammed with her nearly every day to create 21 unique illustrations that would be integrated and featured as the hero artwork on Seed Packets and Bulb Kits. These lovely works of art were marketed on a limited-time special Mother’s Day Smith & Hawken in-store Target garden display. It was one of those projects that made me proud to a creative!
